Welcome to “from Oracle to MySQL”

a blog from a DBA’s perspective – a DBA with many years’ experience in Oracle, who has made the change to MySQL.

I’m the DBA at adapt.com, a company that has created a self-service tool that helps people manage their paid online search-engine advertising campaigns. My DBA experience includes (roughly chronologically) SAS, Mumps, Sybase, Oracle, DB2, mSQL, PostgreSQL and MySQL. Most of my time was spent with Oracle. (Started with Oracle 6.)

Recently our company made the transition to MySQL. I gave a talk about the experience at the O’Reilly Open Source Convention (OSCON 2007), titled “DBA Tales From the Front – from Oracle to MySQL“. I’ve gotten a lot of requests for more information about our experiences, so here goes…
